Neil and I got to go to dinner a few nights ago all by our own selves. It was one of the nicest times Neil and I have had in a long time. We got to sit and chat together. The was no pressing need to talk about anything. That was nice too, because then our conversation just kind of floated from topic to topic. It is so nice to get to talk to your spouse about things that really effect you, when they are NOT effecting you. I am such an emotional ball lately, that anytime Neil tries to work it out, I just cry. or get mad. And that's fun too. But he has so many points of view that obviously could really help me, if I would listen.
One of the topics I thought was really interesting. . . Neil was asking if I enjoy cleaning up after myself when I am done with a craft? Or when I have to clean up dinner? And I told him "No, clean up is not usually fun." So he asked me why I clean up after the girls so much, instead of making them do it. I know it is a LOT easier to get it done faster, but is that really helping them? Clean up is a part of life. Play time and Work time. So, I should be teaching them now that it is a part of life. And to get used to the idea. I know it is hard now to let them do it, (it goes SO MUCH quicker if I do) but isn't that my job, as a mom to teach them the things that they need to get through life, not just today? And isn't cleaning up your own mess a HUGE part of life. In so many ways!!
Being a mom is so much different than I ever thought. I never realized that it is teaching so many simple things, like HOW to brush your teeth or fold socks so they stay together in the drawer. It is so tedious, but I am so glad my mommy took the time with me. . .
Maybe I am trying to be way to philosophical, but hey, at least I posted something. :)
